Scottish Renewables’ Net-Zero Energy Conference to set out vision for Scotland’s energy future

Conference a unique opportunity to hear from experts across renewable energy industry

At Scottish Renewables’ Net-Zero Energy Conference in Edinburgh this week (March 21-22) industry leaders will set out their vision for a secure, affordable, low-carbon energy system.

Events over the past 12 months have had an unprecedented impact on the energy industry and the focus on ensuring a secure, affordable supply of energy has never been greater.

Scotland’s renewables-based energy system is reliable, affordable, low-carbon, and has had a significant impact on Scotland’s supply chain and economy supporting over 27,000 full time jobs and generating over £5.6 billion of output.

Scottish Renewables’ Net-Zero Energy Conference, sponsored by EDF Renewables, will provide the latest industry insights on energy policy, market design and how to achieve the required levels of generation, storage and grid capacity that Scotland will need if it wants to reach its net-zero ambitions.

Guest speakers include Richard Lochhead MSP, Minister for Just Transition, Employment and Fair Work, who will deliver a ministerial address at the conference.

Claire Mack, Chief Executive at Scottish Renewables, said:

“Scottish Renewables’ Net Zero Energy Conference is a must attend for all those with an interest in Scotland’s energy future.

“The conference is not only a unique opportunity to hear from experts across the sector but a place to discuss the issues that matter with the developers, investors, decision-makers and stakeholders making it happen.

“Our guest speakers will discuss the system changes needed to enable deployment at the pace and scale required to achieve a secure, affordable, low-carbon energy system and will consider the system changes needed to enable deployment at the pace and scale required to deliver Scotland’s net-zero ambitions.”

Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF Renewables UK and Ireland, said:

“Scotland is uniquely placed to contribute to the vital global mission of reaching net-zero.

“This conference provides all of us who are at the forefront of this endeavour with a unique and invaluable opportunity to share insights which we can all learn and benefit from. It is an opportunity to discuss shared challenges and consider what we can do in response.

“And it is also an opportunity to explore support mechanisms that will accelerate our vital work and make our net-zero ambition a reality. We at EDF Renewables recognise Scotland’s outstanding potential.

“We already have 500MW of installed renewable capacity here, and there is a further 1.5GW at various stages of planning and development. We are very proud to be the headline sponsor for this event, and we wish all delegates and exhibitors a very enjoyable conference.”

Richard Lochhead MSP, Minister for Just Transition, Employment and Fair Work, said:

“The 2020s is a critical decade for the renewables revolution and by investing now Scotland can be at the forefront of the just transition to net zero. We are an energy rich nation, with significant renewable energy resource, a highly-skilled workforce and innovative businesses across a globally renowned supply chain.

“The Scottish Government’s recently published draft Energy Strategy and Just Transition Plan has set the framework for how we can achieve an energy transition that delivers maximum economic, social and environmental benefit in Scotland for generations to come. I look forward to setting out more detail at Scottish Renewables Net Zero Energy Conference this week.”

Scottish Renewables’ Net Zero Energy Conference is a two day conference which starts with a networking dinner on Tuesday (March 21) followed by a conference and exhibition at the Sheraton Grand Hotel on Wednesday.

A limited amount of delegate passes for the conference and exhibition are still available.
