Kansas City, Missouri, June 5, 2024 – REC Group, an international pioneering solar energy company, held a ribbon-cutting event on May 18, 2024 to celebrate the 75.6kW solar PV system installed at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City. The event was a collaboration between REC, Good Energy Solutions and the KC Current professional women’s soccer team. The new REC solar installation will enable CPKC Stadium to strengthen their sustainability approach and pursuit of the LEED Gold certification.
Dani Welniak, Vice President of Communications for the KC Current, hosted the ribbon-cutting and emphasized the importance of sustainability at CPKC Stadium: “Installing these solar panels is a perfect way to demonstrate leadership in a more sustainable future while also enhancing the fan experience.”
In addition to Dani Welniak, Scott Jenkins, Vice President of Facility Development for KC Current, Malcolm Proudfit, CEO of Good Energy Solutions, and Hannah Raines, Marketing Manager for REC Americas, also spoke at the event.
Hannah Raines highlighted the importance of this partnership: “We at REC admire the Kansas City Current and CPKC Stadium not only for making history in women’s sports, but for leading the way in their commitment to sustainability and their pursuit of the LEED Gold certification. CPKC Stadium is setting a new standard for sports stadiums, and we hope to see more to follow.”
CPKC Stadium houses the KC Current and is the first stadium purpose-built for a professional women’s sports team in the world. Good Energy Solutions, a REC Certified Solar Professional, installed 180 REC Alpha Pure-R panels in March 2024 on the stadium entrance canopy and team store. The solar PV system will produce roughly 100,000 kilowatt hours of energy annually and will help CPKC Stadium meet their sustainability goals.
