Two new UK supply chain companies off to a flying start with Aerospace-inspired Business Transformation Programme

Two new UK supply chain companies off to a flying start with Aerospace-inspired Business Transformation Programme The Offshore Wind Growth Partnership’s Sharing in Growth programme gathers momentum with two new companies benefitting from transformative business support.

Two new UK offshore wind supply chain companies, Tekmar Group Plc and Windhoist Holdings Limited, are the latest recruits to the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership’s (OWGP) Sharing in Growth programme and will benefit from a share of £1.5m of business transformation support.

OWGP and Sharing in Growth UK Ltd (SiG) have been working collaboratively with supply chain companies in the offshore wind sector since the beginning of 2021. Tekmar and Windhoist join Global Energy Group (GEG) and Wescott Industrial Services, with GEG and Wescott having just completed their first 100 days on the programme. All four companies are reaping the rewards of support tailored to their needs, with the specific aim of increasing competitiveness and productivity within the offshore wind sector.

Darlington-based Tekmar Group has been active in the offshore wind sector for over 20 years and is recognised as a market-leading provider of geotechnical assessment & engineering analysis, bespoke equipment design & build, and subsea asset protection & stabilisation solutions for the global offshore energy markets.

Windhoist, based in Glasgow, is a global wind turbine installation contractor offering heavy cranage, mechanical and electrical services to wind turbine OEM’s. A long time provider of services to the onshore sector, Wind hoist, has over the last few years developed into offshore pre assembly and offshore labour provision as the market moves toward offshore installation and maintenance.

The Sharing in Growth Offshore Wind Programme requires significant commitment from a company’s management team.  It focuses on all aspects of the company that contribute to productivity, from leadership and culture to operations and logistics. Combining experience from aerospace and the offshore wind sectors, the rigorous programme is targeting engagement from six to eight offshore wind supply chain companies.

The OWGP is funded by members of the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) and as part of the Offshore Wind Sector Deal has a ten year budget of £100m to support the growth of the UK supply chain.

Alasdair Macdonald, Chief Executive Officer of Tekmar Group, commented: “Tekmar Group is delighted to have been selected to join the programme. We look forward to working with Sharing in Growth to develop a bespoke business improvement plan that aligns with our growth strategy. Our senior leadership team is fully engaged with the programme and is eager to draw from OWGP’s industrial expertise and experience”.

Euan Fenelon, COO of Windhoist , said: “We are delighted in being awarded this support by the OWGP.  The Sharing In Growth programmme offers us an excellent opportunity to improve and expand our performance delivery to the offshore renewables market, giving us the ability to expand commercially and in geographic terms.  Our aim is to deliver a service of high value and quality to our client with world-class leading health and safety performance, and we see the SiG program as a major facilitator in support of this aim.”

Iain Sinclair, Executive Director of Renewables and Energy Transition at Global Energy Group, said: “Our first 100 days of engagement with the OWGP Sharing in Growth programme has been a very positive experience.  The wide range of expertise has provided some insight to conceptual manufacturing processes that we can use to shape plans and seek to implement now, to ensure the success of our facility in the future. Sharing in Growth have demonstrated a straightforward, candid and professional approach, adapting their support to our unique position, ensuring we maximise benefit from the engagement.  We look forward to collaboratively developing our roadmap for future activity and celebrating the success it will bring.”

Matthew Doyle, Commercial Director of Wescott Industrial Services, said: “The programme has been extremely helpful and insightful to our senior leadership team. It has allowed us to review our practices and procedures and understand where we need to improve to develop the business and continue to grow. It has allowed us to focus on understanding our key objectives and how to achieve them through developing a comprehensive strategy and workplace culture.”
