* isishape® cutting-edge technology supports smart and simple processes in solar cell production
* Merck presents its broad product range for a wide variety of solar cells
Darmstadt, Germany – February 16, 2011 – Merck KGaA will be presenting the latest material developments for the photovoltaics industry at the SNEC 5th International Photovoltaic Power Generation Exhibition and Conference from February 22-24, 2011 in Shanghai, China.
At this largest Chinese solar trade fair Merck will showcase the latest developments to its isishape® and Solarpur® product lines. The principal products sold under the Solarpur® product group are antireflective coatings for solar modules as well as electrolytes and electrolyte components including ionic liquids which, through their versatile electrochemical properties, extend the lifetime of dye sensitized solar cells. Under the brand name isishape®, Merck has developed printable etching pastes capable of selectively etching antireflective coatings (e.g. SiNx) and passivation layers (e.g. SiO2) on solar cells as well as on transparent conductive materials (e.g. ITO). Schiller Automation and Merck have jointly developed new equipment for edge isolation of crystalline silicon wafers that uses isishape SolarEtch® and is designed to cut solar cell production costs per watt dramatically. Also, innovative isishape® technology is showing tremendous potential for developing highly efficient new concepts for silicon cells such as SE (Selective Emitter), MWT (Metal Wrapped Through) and LBSF (Local Back Surface Field). Merck’s isishape SolarResistTM is the first ink-jet compatible solution for direct printing of a silicon dioxide diffusion barrier – an important step on the way to the next generation of crystalline solar cells. The unique concept behind isishape® offers environmentally friendly and highly efficient materials for smart and simple structuring in the photovoltaic industry.
In addition, Merck offers the following products for a wide variety of solar cells:
lisicon®: printable organic semiconductors for highly efficient organic solar cells
livilux®: efficient charge transport materials for organic solar cells
On February 22, the second day of the fair, Werner Stockum, Manager Global Technical Marketing of Structuring Solutions at Merck, will present a technical paper on the use of isishape® materials in the crystalline photovoltaics sector and will give an overview of the Working with SunshineTM portfolio. A team of experts from research and development along with marketing and sales representatives will be available to present the products and answer questions at the Merck exhibition stand (W5 / 238) .
The SNEC PV Power Expo in Shanghai is one of the world’s major solar energy exhibitions and conferences and nowadays attracts the most visitors. This year the organizer expects more than 1,700 exhibitors on an exhibition area of around 150,000 square meters and more than 100,000 visitors from over 60 countries. An additional 4,000 participants are expected to attend the world conference taking place simultaneously.
