A positive outlook for recruitment opportunities

A multi-sector recruitment specialist, Mane is a rising star in the offshore arena, and has enjoyed a particularly buoyant year thus far – driven chiefly by a reinvigorated European market. We found out a little more about the organisation’s wind energy credentials and took a look at its plans for future growth…

Background
Mane provides Technical and Engineering Recruitment solutions worldwide, specialising in supplying engineering personnel to the Energy sector, with a particular focus on offshore and onshore wind, tidal, oil and gas, power, energy from waste, marine and petrochemical.

This year has been an incredibly busy one for Mane Energy, with our teams in London, Rotterdam and Hamburg all involved with significant projects across the Globe.
How is the offshore wind industry performing?
There has been a great deal of excitement around recent reports that offshore wind may be able to compete with gas and coal in less than a decade. If the European offshore wind industry can reduce costs by 26 per cent in that period, it will reach cost-competitiveness with conventional forms of energy by 2023.

In the coming years, the offshore wind industry could triple its capacity, from 8GW today to 23.5GW in 20204. This growth is expected mainly from the UK market and a faster deployment in France and the Netherlands. The development of the industry in the coming years is expected to create major growth opportunities for Europe, if long-term visibility and stable regulatory frameworks are in place. Considerable investment in research and development into turbines, supply chain optimisation, transmission, operations and maintenance is likely to be needed to help achieve cost reduction targets. Offshore wind power is still very expensive under commonly used metrics.
