Saint-Gobain Introduces High Performance Tubing for Chemical Dispensing Applications

Flexible and corrosion-resistant Tygon® tubing offers longer service life and reduces disposal concern

Akron, OHIO – 22 October 2012 – A new tubing solution for use in chemical dispensing applications from Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics (SGPPL) is now available in Europe. Part of the company’s high-performance critical connections portfolio, the Tygon® 2375 Ultra Chemical Resistant Tubing replaces Saint-Gobain’s widely used Tygon® 2075 line, providing an improved pressure rating, outstanding chemical resistance and superior flexibility. A clear non-DEHP high purity tube, Tygon® 2375 can be disposed of safely at the end of its operational life without harming the environment.

“We are pleased with the success of the Tygon® 2375 tubing since its launch as part of our range of corrosion-resistant flexible tubing for chemical dispensing, and delighted to introduce it to the European market,” said Lily Lei, Global Marketing Manager, Chemicals, Fluid Systems division at Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics. “From facility cleaning applications, such as institutional warewashers, commercial laundry and car washers, to pesticide and herbicide sprayers, there is a continued demand for extended operational performance.” Tygon® 2375 is able to extend product life from weeks to months, reducing costs and operation downtime.

High Chemical Resistance, Advanced Flexibility
Cleaning chemicals transfer lines need to operate at high pressures and resist chemical attack from the fluids being transported in both chemical dispensing equipment and analysers. In order to meet consumer expectations for product life and performance, tubing must be able to endure concentrated substances – from pesticides to detergents to aggressive cleaning fluids – without degrading.

Traditional solutions rely on stiff plastic liners within tubes to provide chemical resistance, but this method is vulnerable to cracking over time. Extruded fluoropolymer tubes offer more effective chemical compatibility, but have insufficient flexibility.

Tygon® 2375 tubing overcomes these challenges, providing a cost-effective solution without compromising either performance or service life. Able to withstand concentrated chemicals over extended periods, the tubing is virtually unaffected by acids, bases, ketones, salts and alcohols. A non-DEHP solution that eliminates fluid contamination resulting from leaking plasticisers, Tygon® 2375 will not embrittle or crack prematurely and also improves pressure ratings by between 30% and 50% compared to Tygon® 2075.

Environmentally Friendly
In addition to its superior performance in the field, Tygon® 2375 also offers an environmentally-conscious solution for the end of its operational life. Incineration remains one of the most commonly used methods for disposing of contaminated materials like chemical tubing. This method releases hazardous and corrosive hydrochloride gas, which produces acid rain. Unlike other tubing solutions, when properly incinerated Tygon® 2375 does not release any unsafe by-products.

Saint-Gobain is world-renowned for its engineering expertise and customer service, and the company’s critical connections solutions can both support customer application performance and strengthen the brand.
