As a logistics operation spanning over 150 countries, DHL are known throughout the world. Similarly, as manufacturers work with markets across the globe, the move into equipment carriage for wind energy appears a logical direction. PES talks to Peder Jensen, Global Sector Head, Renewable Energy, for DHL Global Forwarding about their foray into the sector.
PES: Welcome to PES. Firstly, can you tell us a little about the history of your company?
Peder Jensen: DHL Global Forwarding is the world-leading provider of air and ocean freight services. We develop global and individual transport solutions for our customers; provide capacity and co-ordinate the dispatch of goods and information in more than 150 countries. To do so, we rely on the competence of around 30,000 employees along with reliable partners.
PES: What prompted your diversification into the carriage of wind turbines?
PJ: Whilst DHL has had a tradition with segmenting our customers into different industries, in 2009 it was decided that a number of strategic sectors (offering large potential growth over the coming decades) would have their own core-teams. Renewable Energy was one of them and we decided early on to focus on wind (as well as photovoltaic solar) as we could use the experience we have gained from the Oil & Gas industry and by moving oversized cargo on a global basis.
PES: And how important is this facet of your business to your total operation?
