PES caught up with Michael Halberg Sørensen, CEO of HeliPPE, to find out how the company started. He talks about the benefits, in terms of cost savings and safety, of hiring personal protective equipment (PPE) for helicopter transport.
PES: Welcome to PES Wind magazine. Thanks for talking with us. Would you like to begin by explaining a little about the background of your organisation and how you currently serve the wind industry?
Michael Halberg Sørensen: I have more than 10 years’ experience in the wind industry. I started out at a local helicopter company in Esbjerg, as a ground operations manager, handling the customers’ PPE for helicopter transport. We carried out the first hoist and crew transfers for offshore windfarms.
So that was how it started and as the wind industry grew, I saw an opportunity. I was approached by a company that needed some help with PPE for helicopter transport, which is how I started to rent out PPE for transfer by helicopter and started HeliPPE. Now HeliPPE provides a service which frees up capital whilst ensuring that all PPE is in tip top condition.
PES: Is offshore wind a growing business area for you? How are you capitalising on this growth?
