A truly innovative company within the offshore wind supply chain, Coordinadora takes service to the next level by offering transportation solutions with the added benefit of engineering know-how. We spoke to the Spanish company’s Business Development spokesman, José Alegria.
PES: Welcome to PES. Would you like to tell us a little about the company and how you service the wind industry?
José Alegria: Our company is a Spanish freight forwarder that has more than 30 years of experience in the market. We can move anything from containers to heavy-lift equipment, and this experience and capacity, demonstrated over years and years of excellent service, permits to us to apply it to both the onshore and offshore wind sectors.
PES: How long has wind been part of your portfolio? Is the sector reaping rewards for you?
JA: We started the wind market some years ago by doing some transportation projects for Gamesa. Those jobs made us think that we were more than capable to be an important part of the logistic chain in the wind market, and in 2014 we finally got the first contract for offshore wind.
Economically speaking, this sector is of course rewarding to us, but it’s even more important that the message that we’re giving to the market is focussed on our capacities and skills in this arena. And this is, maybe, the best of the rewards.
PES: The company is based in the heart of Spain – where are your prime markets for offshore operations?
JA: Our headquarters is in Madrid, but recently we’ve opened two more offices: LOHIMEX in México DF and OCTRA in Paris. Both of them are joint ventures with local companies that are widely known for logistics, particularly the one in France. Logically, our prime market currently is Europe, and the development of the offshore wind farms at the North Sea makes it the most attractive market for
us right now.
