A strong presence of leading executives and key markets makes WindEnergy Hamburg a global meeting point for the industry. We take a closer look at the global on- & offshore expo, which will be held at the Hamburg Fair site from 23 to 26 September.
WindEnergy Hamburg, the foremost international fair for the wind industry, will be held for the first time in Germany’s second biggest city. From 23 to 26 September, the Hamburg Fair site will be the meeting point for energy industry experts from all parts of the world. WindEnergy Hamburg gives this global industry the ideal platform for dialogue and presentation of its innovation, new technologies and services. It covers the whole of the value chain, both onshore and offshore.
More than 1,000 exhibitors from all over the world are expected at the premiere in September, presenting their products on 65,000 square metres of exhibition space. Large-size exhibits will make the fascination of wind energy especially vivid and tangible. Hamburg is the wind energy capital, making it the perfect international setting with real cosmopolitan flair.
“WindEnergy Hamburg will be opened by none less than Sigmar Gabriel, Federal Minister of Economy and Energy, a fact which underscores the importance of the leading industry fair as a global platform for wind energy, both onshore and offshore,” emphasises Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO, Hamburg Messe und Congress. “The main focus of the expo will be the energy transition in Germany as the leading technology location, and above all the key role of wind energy in its realisation.
“This new leading event will be the industry showcase for current and future technology developments, showing how they contribute to innovative solutions for a sustainable energy supply. That is of great interest to any country. And that makes WindEnergy Hamburg the forum this year for major growth stimulus for the industry worldwide.”
Exhibitors from all stages of the value chain
WindEnergy Hamburg is the showcase for all companies active in the international wind power industry for both current and emerging national markets. The great international interest is shown by the presence of global equipment manufacturers such as Alstom, Daewoo, Enercon, Gamesa, GE, Nordex, Senvion, Siemens, Vensys, Vestas and others.
Many of these companies have an office in Hamburg from where they manage major projects. Hamburg has thus become an international wind energy metropolis. What is more, leading companies from all relevant market segments will showcase their products and services at this leading industry fair, which is entirely focused on the specific interests of the wind energy sector, from planners, manufacturers and equipment suppliers to financial service providers, operators, energy supply companies, and service providers. Alongside the key players, small and medium-sized enterprises from all parts of the value chain will also be exhibiting in Hamburg.
“During the four days of the fair, the exhibitors will give an impressive demonstration of the industry’s innovation potential to further improve the efficiency of power generation from wind both on land and at sea,” Aufderheide promises. For example, newly developed technology greatly increases the range of on-shore sites suitable for wind farms, even in regions with relatively low wind conditions or extreme climates.
The same applies to the offshore segment where current development and innovation efforts focus on cutting installation costs.
Companies from over 30 countries
Altogether, the companies, institutions and industry associations exhibiting here come from more than 30 countries. There will be more than 15 national pavilions, each of them bringing together wind energy companies from a specific country for shared activities to provide information on their product portfolio. They include presentations from European markets from the Netherlands to Turkey. Denmark, which has pioneered wind power, will be represented by an especially large number of exhibitors who will occupy more than one entire hall at the fair.
Representatives from wind energy markets outside of Europe will include Canada and the USA, Argentina, Japan, Korea, Bangladesh and China. In addition, visitor delegations from countries such as Brazil, Japan and China will benefit from the extensive information and international networking opportunities at the expo. Among the sponsors of the leading international wind energy expo in Hamburg are numerous industry associations from all over the world representing the interests of wind energy in particular and renewables in general.
Leveraging synergies
WindEnergy Hamburg is timed to generate synergies with SMM Hamburg (the leading maritime industry fair) and H2Expo – e-mobility, fuel cells, hydrogen & storage solutions. This constellation will help wind industry experts to make additional contacts in new fields of business. Many companies in the shipbuilding industry exhibiting at SMM Hamburg from 9 to 12 September will also be present at WindEnergy Hamburg.
They include shipyards, ports, logistic companies and representatives of the maritime equipment industry. The strong presence of exhibitors from the wind and maritime sectors means that WindEnergy Hamburg is also the biggest offshore industry fair.
In parallel with WindEnergy Hamburg, H2Expo will also show approaches for integrating renewables in the energy market, with solutions in storage and mobility. A “Storage Tour” will guide interested visitors explicitly to exhibitors from all industry segments who address the issue of energy storage. Expert lectures and company presentations
At the leading international wind industry fair visitors will find a wide range of information resources and networking opportunities. At the “Forum” in Hall B6, subject-matter experts will give speeches and presentations on current developments in the industry. Featured topics will include the “Energiewende”/energy transition, infrastructure, resources as well as offshore safety.
Visitors of WindEnergy Hamburg will be also able to attend a number of other conferences, panel discussions and workshops hosted by fair exhibitors or sponsors. For example, the Latin America Forum on 25 September will be dedicated specifically to the wind energy markets of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.
In two panel discussions German and Latin American experts will examine the current state of the sector as well as opportunities and challenges for manufacturers and component suppliers in these countries. Recruiting Day on 26 September
On WindEnergy Hamburg’s Recruiting Day on Friday 26 September everything will revolve around jobs, career planning and professional training opportunities in the wind power industry. In a special exhibition area located between Halls B1 and B2, hiring companies from the wind energy sector will set up special booths to present themselves as employers to the industry audience, giving brief introductory talks and informing about their current job openings and training programmes.
At many other exhibition booths of well-known exhibitors throughout the fair halls, human resources managers will be present on 26 September to answer questions about their companies’ hiring process and career opportunities. Anyone looking for a job or trainee position will be able to locate these booths easily by using the “Job Route” in the printed Visitor Guide.
