PES talks to Alejandro Cañas, Head of Special Projects Department at Coordinadora, about growth and logistics. Transport Engineering is their new concept and philosophy in logistics, a unique offer to the offshore wind industry…
PES: Welcome back to PES Wind magazine. Thanks for talking with us. Would you like to begin by explaining a little about the background of your organization and how you currently serve the wind industry?
Alejandro Cañas: We are a Spanish freight forwarder founded more than thirty years ago, in 1982. What differentiates us is that we are introducing a new logistics concept to the market: Transport Engineering. It is a concept we apply to all complex transports and which gives us a unique identity within the sector. Nowadays a third of the company is engaged in this new system of project development. Moreover, the idea of Transport Engineering is not only about calculations, it is also an associated philosophy which is the result of the skills acquired in recent years. We are confident we have the skills and abilities required to persevere in complex environments such as offshore transport that cannot be undertaken without proper engineering.
PES: Is wind energy still a growing business area for you? How are you capitalising on this growth?
AC: Yes, although we are newcomers to this sector, we are very interested in offshore wind energy. We are starting from scratch. During the last year and a half, we have managed very interesting and attractive projects and we have future plans to further develop this area. We are capitalising on this by adding more engineers to the offshore department, together with plans to open offices in northern Europe as additional support for this.
