This month, Dr Stephen Breslin, CEO of Glasgow Science Centre, announced the UK’s first ever coalition of industry and policy-makers to create an exhibition that aims to raise public awareness of the energy challenges that we face and engage in the debate on how to solve them.
When it launches in December, Powering the Future will be part of the Glasgow Science Centre in Scotland and aims to help the general public to appreciate the critical role of the energy sector, the basic science behind it and the challenges we face in balancing our energy supply and demand.
In a first, it has engaged more than 50 experts from across the energy sector; from industry engineers and scientists, to policy makers, training skills councils, education, research and academia. Powering the Future will be an engaging display with interactive, hands-on exhibits that bring to life the science and engineering behind an energy future that is affordable, secure and clean.
In addition to creating a better informed public that is engaged in the debate on future energy supply; Powering the Future will also aim to attract young people to the industry, inspired by the challenges and the role they could play in developing future solutions to these challenges.
In developing the exhibition, Dr Stephen Breslin brought together experts from every field. He said: “It was vital that Powering the Future helped the public to analyse, interpret and critically assess a wide-range of sources of information on the facts behind the energy mix. With the aim of helping them reach reasoned conclusions on the costs and benefits behind different sources of energy.
“It is important that they can understand often complex data and science to help them recognise the positive impact of energy on our lives and on society. We are keen that they think creatively to arrive at potential solutions to overcome the current energy trilemma.
