Global Offshore Wind 2019 is coming up this month and PES are excited to bring you an overview of what you can expect to experience at this great event. The UK is the most exciting offshore wind market in the world in 2019, with up to 6GW of new capacity coming forward at record low prices. The debate about the economic value and energy opportunity of offshore wind is over. The UK is the home of offshore wind, and this technology will be the catalyst of our energy transition.
Leading UK developers are expanding into new markets like the USA and Taiwan, who in turn are opening up opportunities for export and investment across the globe.
Tap into this world of opportunity at Global Offshore Wind 2019, the UK’s largest dedicated offshore wind conference and exhibition taking place from 25th to 26th June at the ExCeL London This global event is organised by RenewableUK in partnership with industry leaders Equinor, innogy, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and ScottishPower Renewables and supported by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Department for International Trade (DIT).
The future of offshore wind
As the world looks for competitive, zero carbon energy sources that can be deployed at a grand scale, in relatively fast time frames, offshore wind is in greater demand than ever before on the world-stage. The market is already truly global. Capacity is set to grow, especially in Asia and the first largescale offshore installations are expected in North America in 2022 or 2023.
2018 marked a pivotal year where China, for the first time, installed and connected more offshore capacity than any other country with 1.8GW, including the UK which took second place with 1.3GW. This trend shows the expansion and growth of offshore wind beyond the UK, where it has achieved so much, into the markets where there is so much more to do.
The UK still is the leading offshore wind market and the Sector Deal between Government and industry makes the UK market unique: offshore wind will be the power at the centre of the UK energy system, with at least 30GW installed by 2030.
There is no better market in the world to get to get to know the issues, investment opportunities, and companies working on the global energy transition than the UK in 2019.
