A multi-billion dollar engineering conglomerate with an impressive and diverse portfolio of products, solutions and services, CG has had a massive impact on the wind industry. With manufacturing facilities in nine countries across Asia, Europe and North America, the company is a global pioneer that delivers results through innovation. We spoke to the company’s Chief Technology Officer Dr Jan Declercq.
PES: Welcome to the magazine. Would you mind explaining a little about the company and how you serve the industry?
Dr Jan Declercq: In essence, CG’s expertise lies in the electrical engineering space, and this involves providing patrons with an exhaustive range of globally rated electrical products, customised services and technical knowhow for all commercial, industrial, manufacturing, utility-based and consumer-based requirements.
We have been in this business for 135 years and counting, and today, we are a 15,000-strong, truly global family, with a presence across 85 countries. Our business interests lie in four main areas – Power, Industrial, Automation and Consumer and our portfolio comprises of transformers, switchgear, circuit-breakers, network protection, substations and solutions, control gear and project engineering to HT and LT motors, drives, lighting, fans, pumps and consumer appliances.
From setting up Smart Grids, LED-based Infrastructure Lighting systems, Railway Transportation Systems and Onshore and Offshore Wind farms to providing Smart Meters, Ultra High Voltage and Extra High Voltage power transmission and substation automation systems, we endeavour to provide users with ‘One World Quality’ as our products and systems reflect international quality standards. We are greatly passionate about enabling the effective generation, transmission, distribution and application of precious electricity, and in so doing, are dedicated to building smart, sustainable futures by empowering the world, the energy-efficient way.
We have been actively involved in the renewable energy space, while providing turnkey solutions for the entire electrical infrastructure. A strong stake in Europe’s offshore wind energy projects use CG transformers, and from the global perspective, we have produced around 40,000 MVA of wind power from over 18,000 CG wind generator transformers worldwide. As far as solar power is concerned, we are proud to be a frontrunner in utility-scale inverter transformers for solar farms in the US and other parts of North and South America. Our solar transformers in the USA and Canada manage around several thousands of MW of clean and green energy.
