As wind farm installations get larger and more remote, the issue of housing and sustaining site workers becomes an increased burden, both in cost and logistics. PES speaks to the CEO of Site Facility, Jakob Heskjær, about how they are overcoming the issue, by bringing the workforce to the work.
PES: Welcome back to the magazine. For the benefit of new readers, would you like to introduce the company and explain a little more about how you serve the wind industry?
Jakob Heskjær: Site Facility’s concept is, in short, to bring the hotel – or site facilities – to the client – where the client needs it. Often in connection with large construction or wind turbine projects, in locations where there is often a long way to the nearest hotel, or in situations where the local hotels cannot accommodate a large number of workers.
The main concept is to take a heavy task off the clients shoulders and instead place it with Site Facility, who are specialists in the field thereby saving the client both money and hassle. Or, as we like to call it: Save more – worry less.
By doing so, the clients will instead be able to focus on their core businesses.
The product does not just consist of running the actual hotel, but also all the work that goes into it beforehand: including, for example, obtaining permits from the authorities, negotiating with landowners and the recruitment of staff as well as everything that takes place after the project finishes, including decommissioning and restoration.
PES: And as we approach the end of 2015, how has business been for you this year?
JH: We can see the bustle of activity the wind industry, and so we get many enquiries on our product. We hope the rest of 2015 may help to put even more focus on our area, given that projects are tending to become larger and increasingly remote. As a result, it is easier to see the benefits businesses get by using our product.
PES: We note that you’ve been engaged in a major project in Uruguay, can you tell us a little about this?
JH: In cooperation with Enercon, we supplied a camp for 110 people. Here all guests have a private room with bath, TV and Wi-Fi. We provide services such as cleaning, washing clothes and meals. The camp also includes a canteen, recreation area, outdoor soccer field and volleyball court and a barbecue area. In addition, we make lunch for an additional 200 people in the cafeteria every day. And so we stand for office modules on site for staff.
