Specialists in building high performance, fuel efficient, lightweight advanced composite vessels, Danish Yachts A/S are perhaps best known for crafting bespoke or production vessels for the superyacht sector. However, they’re also innovators in the wind arena, with Crew Transfer Vessels that deliver performance, efficiency and perhaps unbeatable stability. We caught up with the company’s CEO, Patrik von Sydow.
PES: Welcome to PES magazine. Would you like to take this opportunity to introduce the company and explain how you serve the wind industry?
Patrik von Sydow: Danish Yachts was founded close to twenty years ago and has become highly specialised in advanced composites, especially in the world of superyachts – the leisure sector was early in the uptake of our advanced carbon composite for greater speed.
We have applied our technology to the commercial vessel and component markets now and in the last three years we have specifically taken our expertise into crew transfer vessels. The lightweight construction we offer primarily aids vessel efficiency, but the technology also enables our unique Cat SWATH design, which is in itself, is a combination of two very different vessel principals to be incorporated into one.
Ultimately, the Catamaran aspect of the vessel is all about high speed and high efficiency, whilst we have minimum buoyancy / water plane area for SWATH mode, creating a very stable platform when required.
