A 24/7 commitment to wind

A qualified marine engineer with many years’ experience in offshore wind applications, Peter Jørgensen is a well-known face in the industry. He joins us to discuss CWind’s experience and aspirations, while reinforcing the importance of SHEQ within the sector.

PES: Welcome back to the magazine. For the benefit of new readers, would you like to explain a little about the company’s background and explain how you serve the wind industry

Peter Jørgensen: “Thank you, Sim, I will. CWind has built a solid track record in supporting the wind industry during its
five-odd years of existence. Today, we offer more than 20 different types of services ranging from providing construction expertise on a variety of turbines to temporary power supply, corrosion protection, inspections and cable pull-in.

With around 300 technical experts, a large number of contractors and a fleet of more than 20 purpose-built vessels we cover both construction and O&M project phases. To date we have worked at more than 25 offshore wind farms, including some of the largest projects in the world, such as London Array, Gwynt y Môr and Lincs.
In the last two years, we have also begun working in other European countries and have added a subsidiary in Germany. The benefit for our clients lies in our ability to mix and match our services to create packages to our client’s needs within which we coordinate multiple services smoothly and cost-effectively.”

PES: We note that you’ve just ordered a clutch of new vessels. What kind of capability will this add to your operation?

PJ: For us this has indeed been an important order placement. The next generation of wind farms will be further from shore and in deeper waters. The length of travel and the wave height will significantly increase for technicians travelling out to construct or maintain those wind farms. The recent purchases of crew transfer vessels, which we announced, will expand our fleet’s capability in such conditions.
