Taking waste management seriously

There’s no doubt that the PV industry is doing its utmost to further its green credentials and one of the key battlegrounds is focussed around what to do with spent units and other consumables. PV CYCLE is leading from the front in this regard, with a range of innovative and effective options for importers and manufacturers. Pia Alina Lange, Head of Public Relations PV CYCLE Europe, and Mark Sayers, PV CYCLE UK, answer our questions.

PES: Welcome to PES. Can you explain a little about the company and outline how you serve the PV industry?
Pia Alina Lange:
Thank you. PV CYCLE
is a pan-European Producer scheme, offering dedicated compliance and waste management services for solar energy system products falling under WEEE and Battery Producer Responsibility legislation. In other words, we enable PV importers and manufacturers to comply with their legal obligations in the countries they are active in, and offer PV-focused take-back and recycling solutions for their products.
Founded in 2007 by the European PV industry, PV CYCLE started out as a voluntary take-back and recycling scheme for photovoltaic panel waste. Today, PV CYCLE consists of numerous national subsidiaries that manage our daily operations and offer treatment and legal compliance solutions for a large set of solar energy system products.
PV CYCLE is the first and only fully operational take-back and recycling scheme for all types of PV panels in the world.
PES: Can you give us a little background with regard to the EU legislation behind the disposal of panels?
