Having been established for over 30 years, meteocontrol GmbH will be a familiar company with services that will be similarly familiar for many within the industry. It is also a regular contributor to PES and we have been able to interview many of its executives over the years. This issue is no different, and we speak to Julius Schärdinger to find out about the company’s latest developments – and the impact of this year’s major solar eclipse.
PES: Welcome back to PES. For the benefit of new readers, would you like to introduce the company and explain a little about how you serve the PV industry?
Julius Schärdinger: meteocontrol GmbH is one of the world’s leading providers of monitoring systems for photovoltaic power plants of any size. We support PV system operations through precise system monitoring, direct remote control and intelligent feed-in management to ensure optimised yield and returns.
In addition, meteocontrol offers quality assurance and independent consulting for PV projects. We do this worldwide and from the very beginning.
The company’s headquarters are located in Augsburg, Germany with further offices in Moers, Milan, Madrid, Lyon and Chicago. About 120 employees work at these sites. The worldwide presence is expanding continuously with the sister company meteocontrol China and distribution partners in all the important markets.
PES: And how has business been recently?
JS: With more than 10 GWp of monitored power, meteocontrol is the front-runner among inverter-independent providers of PV monitoring systems.
