Onshore foundations – with a turnkey responsibility

One of the industry’s most recognisable and trusted companies, Peikko Group has built its name on innovation and service. We caught-up with Markku Koponen, Director, Energy Industry, for the inside-track on the firm’s seemingly boundless endeavours.

PES: Welcome to PES. Could you begin by telling us what your company does, when and how it was established and a little about the range of products you offer the wind turbine industry, worldwide?

Markku Koponen: Peikko Group, a Finnish family-owned company, is a pioneer in the fastening technology of concrete structures. It was founded in 1965 in Lahti, Finland, and ever since, Peikko has been focusing on concrete connections and entire solutions for precast concrete elements, or for in-situ applications.

We say that we are in our ‘comfort zone’ when talking about the wind turbine tower foundations. Our strength is in-house expertise, design and manufacturing capabilities for the onshore foundations and applications for the anchoring technology. We have the expertise to provide either encast components or turnkey foundations for this very demanding market. And key to our success is that we can link design and manufacturing processes to ensure delivery commitments are met.

We are proud, for example, of our post tensioning bolts, Peikko FatBars. They received the European Technical Approval (ETA-10/0246) just 21st April 2011. Also, we are the specialist for the precast connections and work closely with the precast concrete tower-producers.
