DOW WIRE & CABLE AT WINDPOWER 2010

Dow Wire & Cable, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, will be participating in the WINDPOWER 2010 Conference and Exhibition, May 23-26, 2010 at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, TX. The company formulates, tests and validates medium voltage (MV), high voltage (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) materials ideal for underground (UG) and submarine power cable applications to meet the needs of both on-shore and off-shore connections between wind farms and the power grid.

“Dow Wire & Cable is reaching out to wind farm developers, independent power providers and utilities to demonstrate that our long term expertise in the power industry is relevant to the wind market,” says Mark Burtch, Global Segment Leader, Medium Voltage for Dow Wire & Cable. “System reliability is crucial as wind power is intermittent, and unplanned cable repair could be costly in terms of both downtime and maintenance expense. Installation of cables made with Dow materials are more likely to result in UG power systems that will require little to no unplanned cable repair.”
Dow Wire & Cable has a proven track record of technology and materials for UG power systems. In 2008, the company celebrated the 25th anniversary of in-ground service for its tree-retardant crosslinked polyethylene (TR-XLPE) MV cable compounds. The company’s HV and EHV compounds have seen ten years of service. Dow Wire & Cable works with cable manufacturers to ensure that cables constructed with its jacketing, insulation and semiconductive materials meet or exceed global industry standards for reliability.
