wpd wins French offshore projects

A European consortium including wpd reached an important success as the results of the French offshore tender now have been released: With the wpd projects Courseulles-sur-Mer and Fécamp the bidding consortium including EDF, Alstom, DONG Energy and wpd were able to secure projects on a scale of some 1,000 MW.

As a result wpd is now well-positioned in the emerging French offshore market.

“In EDF, Alstom and Dong we found strong partners. EDF and Dong on the other hand could rely on wpd’s five years of offshore development work in France. This combination of partners paid out and wpd as shareholder is now responsible for the permission process and the further development of the projects on site. Since wpd already achieved the permission for eight European offshore projects, we see ourselves as well prepared for this task”, declares Achim Berge, managing director of wpd offshore.

Already this year a second tender round for further French offshore projects is expected. Even here several wpd-projects are shortlisted. However, no bidding consortiums for the second round have been established yet.

wpd
wpd offshore is one of the leader of Offshore Wind in Europe, with 10 GW under development and 2.8 GW already consented. wpd offshore achieved last summer the construction of Baltic 1 wind farm (21 WTGs, 1st German wind farm in Baltic Sea). The group is in the procurement and construction phase for the Butendiek project (80 WTGs, Germany). In France, wpd offshore has developed many projects since 2007. Technical and environmental studies on these areas were key factors for the development of these projects, together with the knowledge and consideration of local stakeholders.
