Working with Sunshine: Merck at the 26th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition in Hamburg

– isishape® cutting-edge technology supports smart and simple processes in solar cell production
– Launch of livionTM as a brand for dedicated DSSC electrolytes
– Presentation of the first large-size glass-based screen-printed DSSC solar panel prototype from Fraunhofer ISE containing Solarpur® materials

Darmstadt, September 1, 2011 – Merck KGaA will be exhibiting its latest material developments for the photovoltaic industry at the 26th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition in Hamburg, Germany from September 5-8, 2011.

At the exhibition, Merck will present the latest developments to its isishape®product line. The unique concept behind isishape® offers environmentally friendly and highly efficient materials for smart and simple structuring in the photovoltaic industry. Under the brand name isishape®, Merck has developed printable etching pastes capable of selectively etching antireflective coatings (e.g. SiNx) and passivation layers (e.g. SiO2 or AlOx) on solar cells as well as on transparent conductive materials (e.g. ITO). Having enabled the first mass production of highly efficient selective emitter cells in 2009, Merck isishape® materials are regularly used for this application by various leading solar cell manufacturers. Innovative isishape® technology is also showing tremendous potential for developing highly productive new concepts for silicon cells such as MWT (Metal Wrap Through) and LBSF (Local Back Surface Field) as well as for an efficient process for edge isolation. Merck’s isishape® SolarResistTM is the first ink-jet compatible solution for direct printing of a silicon dioxide diffusion barrier.
