At the Hamburg Fair site from 27 to 30 September

WE13T/Hamburg, 19 September 2016

Numerous world premieres and impressive exhibits are the highlights of WindEnergy Hamburg 2016, which opens at the Hamburg Fair site in the coming week. The large-scale exhibit delivered this Monday is a world innovation, and a record breaker – it is the biggest wind turbine gearbox ever built in the world, and will be on show for the first time at the world’s greatest wind industry expo. WindEnergy Hamburg is the showcase for the industry again from 27 to 30 September, presenting the latest developments, products and services. More than 1,200 exhibitors from 34 countries will be showing their innovations for onshore and offshore wind energy.

The gearbox, developed by Winergy in close cooperation with Adwen for the latter’s AD 8-180 offshore wind turbine, will be presented to international trade visitors for the first time at the Winergy stand. This model has been specially modified for WindEnergy in order to give visitors a view inside the gearbox and its bearings. The exhibit was transported into Hall B5 on Monday and lifted from its low-loader truck by crane. It has a weight of 46.7 tonnes, height 3.66m, width 3.35m and length 3.50m. The original gearbox with all its components is even heavier, weighing in at 86 tonnes. This is the world’s largest ever wind turbine gearbox, with input torque of nearly 10,000 kilonewtons/metre (kNm). Further exhibits from different exhibitors follow in the next days.
