The Tower Oscillation Sensor Vs40 Provides For Safety And Protection

Wind power plants are subjected to high stresses such as oscillations and vibrations. Oscillations must be safely monitored in order to prevent damages and expensive downtimes. Directives such as GL2010 also require a tower oscillation monitoring and recommend even to implement it with performance level d (PLd).

In order to offer a comprehensive monitoring of all safety-relevant functions, Kübler has expanded its portfolio with the tower oscillation sensor VS40. This compact and robust sensor measures the oscillations of the tower in two dimensions with a measuring range of ± 2 g and transmits the measured value as an analog 4…20mA or 0,5…4,5V signal to the control system. In this configuration, this sensor can ideally be combined with the Kübler Safety-M safety modules. It can of course also be connected to any other operational or safety control system.

In these harsh environments, robust and reliable sensors are particularly important. The tower oscillation sensor VS40 has all required features: sturdy plastic housing, high IP67 protection level and a wide temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.
