Synaptec commits to unique power systems analysis offering with senior staff appointment


Fast-growing energy tech company Synaptec has appointed Dr Steven Blair to drive the business’s power systems analytics and management offering.

Dr Blair will represent the company as Head of Power Systems Technologies in a senior technical position which will see him develop a real-time and long-term data analytics platform based upon Synaptec’s unique sensor technology.

The new appointment represents Synaptec’s expansion into the world of power system insights and analysis, and brings a new level of expertise to the Glasgow-based business. Dr Blair’s background is in power system protection and supporting technologies including communications networks, measurement systems and real-time software. He has been the Nokia Lecturer at the University of Strathclyde since 2018 and working in a number of research roles associated with power systems technologies.

Dr Blair said of his new role:

“I’ll be working with clients to deliver their requirements around real-time data monitoring and analytics, implementing new algorithms and establishing a data analytics platform which will benefit the energy industry by enabling Synaptec’s sensing system to perform many more functions for utilities.”

Synaptec MD, Philip Orr, added:

“Advanced measurement and data insights are a necessity as we move to an increasingly diversified energy generation. Dr Blair’s knowledge and expertise will provide Synaptec’s customers with cost-effective solutions to this challenge and create a unique platform for visibility of complex networks.”
