US based Mission Solar Energy has ordered an InPassion ALD for its high efficiency n-type silicon bifacial solar cell line. With this order SoLayTec enters the U.S. market and in parallel it becomes clear that ALD Al2O3 will be part of the n-type silicon based solar cell production.
Roger Görtzen, co-founder of SoLayTec and manager marketing and sales commented: “At the start of our operations SoLayTec mostly aimed towards PERC solar cell technology based on mono and multi crystalline silicon. This turned out to be successful and in addition our customers now start to use ALD Al2O3 of SoLayTec for multiple high efficiency solar cell concepts like IBC, PERT and bifacial. At the upcoming conference WCPEC-6 in Kyoto Japan, in November 2014, our research partner IMEC will present the latest world record n-PERT (Passivated Emitter, Rear Totally diffused) cells with solar cell efficiency of 21,5% for large area c-Si n-type PERT solar cells. SoLayTec’s ALD layers are proven to reach 0.3% higher efficiency compared to thermally grown WetOxide.”
“When we started supplying our machines for mass production, the main focus for SoLayTec was reaching the highest throughput and best uptime. Also essential is the cost reduction of the expensive TMA precursor material. Most recently, we have implemented the most cost effective TMA recipe at one of our main customers in Asia. At this stage the ALD Al2O3 from SoLayTec consumes a factor 4-5 less compared to competing technologies like PECVD AlOx”, comments Roger Görtzen.
SoLayTec
SoLayTec is a spin-off company of the Dutch research organisation TNO and established in 2010. The company develops, delivers and services machines for atomic layer deposition (ALD) on solar cells worldwide. The SoLayTec ALD machines are designed for mass production in the solar market. In the field of solar cell ALD equipment, SoLayTec has a leading position.
