Burgas, Bulgaria, September 4, 2026Sineng Electric, a global leader in solar PV, energy storage, and hydrogen solutions, has supplied its advanced 6.9 MW central PCS MV turnkey stations for the 150 MW/300 MWh energy storage system at the landmark Burgas BESS project in Bulgaria. With a total capacity of 602 MWh, the project is the largest operational battery energy storage facility in Eastern Europe to date.

Executed by one of the leading European EPC and O&M contractor Solarpro Technology, the Burgas BESS increases the country’s total energy storage capacity by 10%, providing essential balancing capabilities for large-scale wind and solar generation while improving the stability, flexibility, and reliability of the national electricity grid.

For this 150 MW/300 MWh energy storage project, Sineng Electric supplied its 6.9 MW central PCS MV turnkey station, which integrates four EH-1725-HA-UD central PCS units, a transformer, and RMU into a compact design. Sineng’s energy storage solution supports 1/2/4/6/8-hour storage durations to meet diverse project requirements. By reducing parallel connections by 50%, the PCS optimizes system design and enhances operational reliability. Featuring a modular design, Sineng’s energy storage solution simplifies maintenance and minimizes downtime, ensuring high system availability throughout the project lifecycle. It delivers full four-quadrant reactive power capability together with advanced grid-forming functionality.

This standalone battery energy storage facility is designed to deliver multiple grid services, including peak shaving, load shifting, Frequency Containment Reserves (FCR), and automatic Frequency Restoration Reserves (aFRR). By storing electricity during periods of lower demand and dispatching power during peak consumption periods, the system improves energy utilization efficiency while supporting grid balancing and renewable energy accommodation.

Furthermore, through advanced grid-forming capabilities, the project provides enhanced voltage support, fast dynamic response, and improved system strength. Additionally, it provides a scalable model for renewable integration and grid modernization across Eastern Europe.

“Large-scale energy storage is becoming a fundamental component of future power system as renewable penetration continues to increase,” said Rock Li, General Manager of Sineng Electric Europe. “Through the deployment of our 6.9 MW central PCS MV turnkey station, Sineng Electric is pleased to support this important project by delivering advanced grid-forming technology that enhances energy security and grid flexibility in Bulgaria.”

The Burgas BESS represents a major advancement in Bulgaria’s clean energy transition and reflects the growing importance of energy storage in enabling a more flexible and reliable electricity system. Through continuous development of grid-forming energy storage solutions, Sineng Electric remains committed to supporting global energy transformation toward a zero-carbon future.
