The A2Sea wind turbine installation vessel Sea Installer arrived this afternoon at Port Oostende. Once it was moored at the head of the REBO offshore wind terminal, Siemens immediately started the loading procedure of the 7 MW wind turbines, which are ready for use on the quay.
A spectacular installation
Two wind turbines will be brought to the sea per sailing: 2 towers (87 m), 2 nacelles (400 tonnes each) and 6 blades (75 m). The towers are transported vertically; they are 87 m high. The blades protrude 26 metres on starboard side and 13 metres on port side, which means the total width of the transport is 78 metres.
A total of 42 turbines will be installed, which means that 21 trips will be made from Port Oostende to the Rentel wind farm and back. The average turnaround time of 1 trip is about 4 days.
Rentel
Construction of the Rentel wind farm started in Port Oostende mid-February after the first parts arrived at the REBO offshore wind terminal. On 23rd March, the heaviest part of the Siemens 7 MW turbine, the nacelle (20 m long, 9 m wide, 7 m deep, 400 tonnes), was unloaded onto the quay by roll-on-roll-off (roro). By now, the three different tower elements have been assembled to a total height of 87 metres.
