Solar Energy Company PROINSO has won a Solar + Power Award for a PV project in Kepulauan Riau, Indonesia.
Established in 2009, the Solar + Power Awards (formerly the Solar Industry Awards) recognise innovative manufacturing and product approaches that have the potential to change the way we live.
PROINSO was presented with the Rural Electrification award at a ceremony in Munich last Wednesday (June 22nd).
South East Asia accounts for approximately 37 percent of the world’s population who have no access to electricity. In many countries the energy infrastructure is under-developed. The standalone system installed has brought huge benefits to local residents. The PV project in Kepulauan Riau provides 300 Wh of power to each household every day which is sufficient for daily basic needs such as lighting.
Mark Randall, PROINSO CEO, said, “I would like to thank the judges of the Solar + Power Awards and also all those people who voted for PROINSO. Rural electrification is challenging but we see an industry-wide willingness to tackle the issue. Our project in Kepulauan Riau is perfect example of this. On first view there appeared to be significant logistical, engineering and financing challenges. However, with the experience and expertise of our local partner PT. Surya Energi Indotama, we have been successful in providing clean energy that has a positive impact on people’s lives.”
