Press release of Phoenix Solar AG, 20 December 2010

Phoenix Solar AG (ISIN DE000A0BVU93), a leading international photovoltaic system integrator listed on the German TecDAX, is building a solar carport on behalf of “CIC PV Project Piadena KG der CIC Italia GmbH & Co.” (CIC), a project company held by SOLARWATT PV Italia GmbH. The carport, which is located on the property of Altmann, a logistics group, in Piadena, Italy, will have a peak power of 5.9 megawatts (MWp).

Some 24,700 Solarwatt crystalline modules will be installed on the four individual surface areas which form the roof of the carport and come to around 13,000 square metres in total. SMA is supplying the inverters. The carport has enough space for around 6,000 new cars and fulfils a dual purpose: The photovoltaic plant on the roof will generate around 6.4 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity a year and, at the same time, protect the vehicles against the weather and keep them clean. Phoenix Solar is responsible for the planning, site management and the professional construction of the solar carport. Construction activities have already commenced.

“We are delighted that we have been chosen to realise this flagship project for SOLARWATT PV Italia GmbH and are proud to be building one of the world’s largest solar carports”, said Ulrich Reidenbach, Chief Sales Officer of Phoenix Solar AG. “We view the dual function of solar carports as a future-oriented business segment where we have already strongly positioned ourselves through the megawatt carport completed this year in Berlin and this new carport.”

“This photovoltaic power plant is a convincing combination of functionality and sustainable business management”, explained Dr Jürgen Müller, managing director of SOLARWATT PV Italia GmbH and general manager of SOLARWATT AG in Dresden. “Phoenix Solar has the know-how and experience in the construction of carport power plants and was therefore the ideal choice of partner when the contract for implementing this project was awarded”, stated Müller.
