Recently, the Procyon, one of the pilot vessels of Nederlands Loodswezen BV, is equipped with 3 new davit systems for deployment and recovery of their Fast Launch Craft that transfer pilots to and from seagoing vessels. Only a year was needed for Nederlands Loodswezen BV and SMST for the realization of the newly designed and built davit systems. After the sea trials beginning of July, the Procyon is back at work at the Dutch pilot stations in the North Sea.
Nederlands Loodswezen BV, the Dutch maritime pilots’ organization, has chosen the SMST davit systems to replace the existing systems and increase the efficiency and reliability of the fast launch operations. With their high speed hoisting configuration, the davit systems safely and smoothly handle a maximum weight of 4.5t in sea conditions up to a significant wave height of 3.5m (4.0m in an emergency). The davit systems are carried out with a wave compensation system to extend the workability. An improved cable spooling set up is part of the sustainable and robust design.
“SMST has delivered a perfectly working product that is easy and faultless to operate. The davit systems have been extensively tested in the factory and at sea,” says Jos de Nooijer, captain at Nederlands Loodswezen BV, “We appreciate that SMST has listened to us carefully; all our wishes have been carried out as desired.”
