Ørsted opens formal consultation on plans for new Hornsea Project Four offshore wind farm

Global leader in offshore wind, Ørsted, is officially opening the formal consultation phase for its Hornsea Project Four offshore wind farm this week and is inviting local residents to give their feedback on plans.

A series of information events will also be held in the first week of September which give local people an opportunity to view proposals, speak to members of the project team and see how plans have progressed since the last round of consultation.

The formal phase of community consultation is open between 13 August and 23 September 2019 and feedback on the latest plans can be submitted at the events or online – via a special web portal.

Hornsea Project Four is a new offshore wind farm which Ørsted is proposing to develop in the North Sea, approximately 65 km off Flamborough Head on the Yorkshire Coast.

Ørsted is investigating an offshore area of up to 600km2, where up to 180 turbines could be located to provide a significant amount of clean, renewable energy.

The offshore wind farm would be located to the west of the Hornsea Project One and Hornsea Project Two Offshore Wind Farms, which are currently under construction. Ørsted also operates a further 11 offshore wind farms around the UK.

Jamie Baldwin, Project Development Manager at Ørsted, said: “The UK has world-leading capabilities in offshore wind. By 2030, one third of British electricity is set to be produced by offshore wind power and Ørsted is at the forefront of this green energy revolution. As the global leader in offshore wind, we take our responsibilities to the communities in which we build and operate our projects very seriously. We’d encourage any interested individuals and groups to attend the events, so they can better understand what is being proposed and the project team can capture their thoughts and comments.”

For anyone who cannot attend the events, project documents will also be available at a number of community access points across East Riding of Yorkshire and via the project website (www.Hornseaprojects.co.uk/Hornsea-Project-Four).
