New Simulation Program GeoT*SOL basic 2.0 from Valentin Software Facilitates the Planning and Design of Heat Pumps

With the new software GeoT*SOL basic 2.0, the Berlin-based software company Valentin has extended the field of application for their design program for heat pump systems. In addition to air and geothermal probes, which extract heat by drilling up to 100 meters deep, the new program now also makes it possible to design pump systems that use groundwater or geothermal collectors laid horizontally in the ground as the heat source.

For the design, the user can choose between five pre-defined system configurations that have proven themselves in practice. In addition, there is the opportunity to design and dimension individual components, including heat pumps, heat sources and storage tanks, as well as solar collectors that provide heat for the storage tanks. After determining the heating and domestic hot water requirements, the software provides all the results in graphical form, including the annual courses of the relevant temperatures, the useful heat and electric power, as well as the coefficient of performance. The program also calculates the annual energy yields and makes statements about the economic efficiency and the pollution reduction over conventional systems.

Extensive Databases
Like the previous version, GeoT*SOL basic 2.0 also determines the annual coefficient of performance on the basis of minute values. This number indicates the quotients from the heat supplied and the power consumption. In addition to the simulation result, the software calculates the annual coefficient according to VDI guideline 4650, which is required by the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) for the approval of grant applications in Germany.
For the simulations, the software includes a database of 1,600 heat pumps from leading manufacturers as well as international climate data sets. GeoT*SOL basic 2.0 is available in English and German.
