Met Office announces new contracts to aid safe construction of two offshore wind farms in Germany

16 February 2016, London: The Met Office today announces new forecast service contracts with two significant wind farm developments in Germany. The Met Office will be providing services to help with the safe construction and successful commissioning of these offshore wind farms in the south west of the German Bight area of the North Sea.

Nordsee One GmbH, a 332MW offshore wind project located in the German North Sea, has chosen a range of Met Office services to ensure safety throughout the construction of 54 turbines. Nordsee One offshore wind farm, which is jointly owned by Northland Power Inc. and RWEI Innogy, will be using SafeseeTM, a web-based forecast delivery solution and Premium Tab & Graph, a forecaster reviewed five day marine forecast of site-specific weather and warning information. It will also be utilising two further Met Office products; Port forecasts and SafeVoyage – a forecast for planning your vessel’s route in open water and moving personnel and equipment safely and efficiently. The project is due for completion in April 2017.

In addition, Veja Mate Offshore Project GmbH is using the Met Office’s services during its Inter Array Cable campaign from approximately August 2016 until March 2017. The offshore wind farm will consist of 67 turbines, generating 402 MW each year. Veja Mate, which is currently owned by the Highland Group (Siemens Financial Services and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners) will be using Premium Tab & Graph and SafeVoyage from Hartlepool to the construction site, plus forecasts on request for additional shipping routes during the IAC campaign.
