Lightsource connects more than 300MWp in the month of March alone

Lightsource Renewable Energy has connected 27 new solar farm sites with a total capacity of 303 Megawatts peak (MWp) in a single month ahead of the 1.4 Renewable Obligations Certificate (ROC) deadline.

It’s been a bumper month for the UK’s leading solar energy generator, taking the company’s total installed capacity to 960MWp – with 58MW more ready to start construction using the grace period rules.

The sites connected by Lightsource in March alone range from 4 to 30.9MWp, including 15 sites over 11MWp. An impressive double in Cambridgeshire saw the connection of the Black Peak (19MWp) and Muncey’s Farm (30.9MWp) sites, which will are capable of providing enough energy to power more than 14,000 homes.

Lightsource was one of few winners in the first round of Contracts for Difference (CfD) auctions with its 14MW Charity Farm site, however the company will continue to push ahead with ROC projects as well as pursuing suitable CfD sites.
