9th October 2024, UK – Kent, a global integrated energy services provider, is pleased to announce a new contract with Five Estuaries, being led by RWE, a leading renewables developer, for a Concept Design study of a HVAC Offshore Substation Platform for the Five Estuaries Offshore Windfarm.
The Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm is the sister extension project of the existing £1.5 billion, 353MW Galloper Wind Farm, located 30km off the coast of Suffolk. First power from Galloper was generated in November 2017 and it became fully operational in March 2018. Each year Galloper Wind Farm’s 56 turbines generate enough green electricity to power the equivalent of more than 444,000 UK homes.
The proposed wind farm is located approximately 37 kilometers off the Suffolk / Essex coast and planned to be fully operational from 2031. Five Estuaries is owned by a number of shareholders with RWE leading the development, construction, and operation. Kent has been entrusted with the crucial task of conducting the Offshore Substation Topside concept design and Support Structure foundation assessment and concept design.
Cerianne Cummings, Head of Offshore Wind at Kent, said: “We are extremely proud to be part of this journey with RWE and continue to support the continued growth of the offshore wind sector in the UK. Our team is committed to working collaboratively to ensure the success of the project, now and as it progresses.”
This contract will not only strengthen Kent’s position in the offshore wind sector but also reinforces its commitment to supporting the UK’s renewable energy goals and supporting the UK Government in achieving its goal of having every single home powered by offshore wind within the next 10 years.
