K2 Systems strengthens its ground-mounted portfolio image

With the introduction of Pi-Rack for utility-scale projects and flexible N-Rack Kits, the German mounting system specialist is expanding its range for ground-mounted PV systems

Utility-scale projects are a key driver of European photovoltaic expansion: in 2025, approximately 54 percent of all new installations were ground-mounted systems. Supported by political tailwinds and long-term strategies, this market continues to grow. K2 Systems is consistently following this path by strategically expanding its portfolio in this segment.

With the new K2 Pi-Rack, the company introduces a dedicated solution for large-scale PV projects, while smaller projects can still be implemented using the N-Rack System. Additionally, N-Rack Kits are now available for small-scale systems that do not require individual calculations.

K2 Pi-Rack: Precisely designed for large-scale projects

K2 Systems clearly positions the new Pi-Rack in the utility-scale segment: this steel support system is specifically developed for large PV projects and can be configured on a project-specific basis. The focus lies on high load-bearing capacity, durable materials, and rapid installation, demonstrating a high degree of assembly friendliness. All steel components – including the ramming posts – feature a zinc-magnesium-aluminum coating, which significantly enhances corrosion protection.

A central design feature is the double-sided slide-in profile and the screw-free module mounting with bottom clamping – both of which make installation simple and fast. The system supports module tilts of 15° and 20°, as well as a layout of three modules in portrait format. Cable management is integrated into the purlins or along the rafter profiles, ensuring structured routing, protecting the cables, and simplifying maintenance work.

"We developed Pi-Rack to optimally support the technical and logistical requirements of large-scale ground-mounted systems," explains Katharina David, Co-CEO of K2 Systems. "Fewer components, minimal tool requirements, and the ability to adapt to terrain and module types promote fast workflows. The simplicity is what wins people over, providing our customers with real time and cost advantages."

K2 N-Rack: Cost-effective solution for small and medium-sized PV systems

While the Pi-Rack is designed for the high megawatt range, the N-Rack solutions cover the spectrum of small and medium-sized ground-mounted systems. This makes it possible to unlock additional land potential – such as vacant plots, unused agricultural areas, or large gardens with grid access.

The system supports various foundation types – ramming posts, concrete, and screw foundations – as well as module tilts of 15° or 20°. This makes it adaptable to diverse soil conditions and locations.

To ensure fast delivery and installation processes, K2 Systems offers pre-configured kits in two standard layouts:

  • 2 x 7 modules portrait – suitable for small-scale systems that do not require building (e.g. "garden PV")

  •  2 x 12 modules Portrait – standard table size for small to medium-sized ground-mounted systems up to approx. 250 kW

The K2 N-Rack Kits are modular, consisting of a Top Kit and several Ground Kits. All components can be assembled using common tools. The Top Kit contains the main components of the respective layout and is available for both 54-cell half-cut modules (54HC) and 72-cell modules. Depending on the ground conditions, four Ground Kits are available: for ramming posts, screw foundations, concrete, or gabion foundations. Thanks to the standardized system design, no additional static validation is required, which speeds up the planning process.

From roof to façade to open spaces: K2 as a full-service provider

By expanding its ground-mount portfolio for large-scale projects, K2 Systems continues its strategic development: following last year’s addition of facade solutions to its rooftop range, the new groundmount systems now complete the step toward becoming a holistic provider of photovoltaic mounting systems. The company continues to rely consistently on modular building block systems, high-quality materials, and sophisticated design principles, as well as services ranging from digital planning to project implementation. "The energy transition needs every square meter – on roofs, on facades, and in open spaces," emphasizes Katharina David. "With our expanded ground-mount solutions, projects of various sizes can be realized, and previously unused areas can be developed economically."

The K2 Pi-Rack system can now be planned through the K2 project team. At Intersolar Europe 2026 in Munich, ground-mount experts can experience the Pi-Rack system in person at the K2 Systems booth (A6.280), speak with product specialists, and
discuss project approaches. Furthermore, visitors to the booth will gain comprehensive insight into the latest innovations for pitched and flat roofs, as well as selected facade and carport solutions, which K2 Systems will also be presenting on-site.
