There is every indication that the solar and energy storage industries are set for growth on the East Coast of the USA. Seldom before has development been so dynamic, never have perspectives been more promising. This is reason enough for the organizers of the Intersolar Summit conferences to invite the key players of the industry to Brooklyn again. This year, the focus is on energy storage and financing possibilities. New York State Senator Kevin S. Parker will open the Summit, which will be attended by more than 300 industry experts.
Pforzheim / Brooklyn, New York – 29 February 2016. On 24 March 2016, more than 300 solar and energy storage experts will gather at the Intersolar Summit USA East in Brooklyn to discuss possible chances and challenges of current solar programs and energy storage systems. Brooklyn, New York is the perfect location for solar and energy storage conferences of such dimension and international importance: according to information provided by the independent non-profit Solar Foundation, the number of jobs in the solar industry throughout the USA has doubled to a total of 209,000 jobs within the last five years. Almost half of the US solar companies, i.e. approx. 3,000, are located on the East Coast. A total of 15,000 solar jobs are in Massachusetts which therefore ranks second in US solar employment statistics, followed by New York and New Jersey in fourth and fifth place respectively. This is mainly due to regional funding measures and initiatives which make solar installations particularly interesting for private individuals.
Political incentives like the New York NY-SUN Initiative or the NYC REV strategy have a strong impact: the installation figures for New York alone are estimated to reach 3,000 MW by 2022. In January 2016, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced further programs to achieve his very ambitious goal of 50% of electricity in New York being generated from renewable energy sources by 2030: The New York State Public Service Commission has approved a 10-year, $5 billion Clean Energy Fund. The industry is also placing its hope in international incentives like the Paris Agreement reached at the UN climate change conference in December 2015.
In order to effectively discuss the huge number of current governmental as well as private funding and financing possibilities, one of the two summit tracks in the afternoon will focus exclusively on this topic. High-calibre financial experts – among them Michael Eckhart, Managing Director and Global Head of Environmental Finance Corporate and Investment Banking of the Citigourp, Inc., Alfred Griffin, President of New York Green Bank, Jigar Shah, co-founder of Generate Capital Inc. as well as Cisco DeVries, CEO of Renew Financial – will be presenting investment possibilities and will be available for direct exchange with the audience.
A second track, taking place at the same time, will focus on the latest developments in the energy storage segment, which are the reason for the solar industry gathering even further momentum. Apart from technical innovations, advantages and disadvantages of the different technical systems as well as their application in practice, experts will take a closer look at profitable business models within the US storage market.
