Fortaleza, 10 April 2024: The 4th edition of Intersolar Summit Brasil Nordeste started with significant discussions about the solar industry. The exhibition and workshops were also highlights. The event will proceed on 11 April 2024 at the Centro de Eventos do Ceará.
The first day of Intersolar Summit Brasil Nordeste featured relevant debates on the solar PV energy industry. A high-profile conference was accompanied by workshops and an exhibition with more than 100 exhibitors. The event was organised by Aranda Eventos & Congressos in association with Germany’s Solar Promotion International.
In his opening speech, Dr Florian Wessendorf talked about the journey towards complete energy transition: “We are here to discuss society’s future as a whole. Our mission is to provide opportunities for solar energy generation in the Brazilian Northeast.” Also speaking at the opening, Celso Mendes, a consultant to Aranda Editora, talked about Ceará’s relevance to the event and highlighted its growth over recent years.
Rodrigo Sauaia, President of the Brazilian Association of Solar Photovoltaic Energy (ABSOLAR), talked about the evolution of solar energy in the country, pointing out that discussions between the industry and government bodies is essential if the business environment and the energy transition are to continue advancing. Jurandir Picanço, a consultant to Ceará’s Federation of Industries, emphasised the region’s potential for producing green hydrogen and proposed that the country’s future development be anchored on the energy transition.
Markus Vlasits, director of NewCharge and a consultant to the conference, said that the operation of the power system with the growing addition of renewable sources such as solar raises questions on how to make use of energy storage to add value. Joaquim Rolim, Executive Secretary for Industry at Ceará’s Economic Development Office, stressed the importance of Intersolar Summit Brasil Nordeste as a vector to attract solar business and strategic talks. “Ceará has been treating the renewable energy industry as a strategic step by facilitating entries to more and more businesses that drive the energy transition forward,” he said.
The Exhibition
The 100 exhibitors this year have made it necessary to increase the exhibiting area to 5,000m². The hall was filled with major players from the solar energy ecosystem, conducting business deals, showcasing their innovations, and networking.
The Panels
“The Evolution of Distributed Generation in Northeastern Brazil” was the theme of the day’s first panel discussion, in which the President of the Ceará’s Association of Energy Producers and Electricity Service Providers (Sindienergia-CE), Luis Carlos Gadelha de Queiroz, described the association’s work to try and integrate all energy sources, and stressed the importance of having a centralised government strategy to exploit the solar industry’s potential more assertively. Back to the stage, ABSOLAR’s President, Rodrigo Sauaia, endorsed a dialogue with federal, state and municipal governments to try and speed up the growth of distributed generation. He also advocated for improving access to credit for financing new ventures.
“Advances in Centralised Generation” was the focus of the day’s second panel. Márcio Trannin, Managing Director at Sunco Capital for South America talked about Brazil’s current scenario, its potential and investment possibilities. Filipe Souza, Project Development Manager at Kroma Energia, pointed out that a drop in capital expenditure, especially on inverters and trackers, was one of the factors that allowed the introduction of major projects. The last to speak on the panel was Matheus Kleming, Manager of the Green Hydrogen Project at Casa dos Ventos. His subject was his company’s green hydrogen project at the Pecém Port and Industrial Complex. To close the Conference’s first day, the last panel featured a debate on “The Prospects for Power Systems with a High Share of Renewable Sources”, with Markus Vlasits, Director of Newcharge; Tiago de Barros, CEO of RegE Consultoria; and Jonas Becker, CEO of E1 Energia.
The Workshops
The event’s first day also featured three workshops: “Using AI to Design Energy Storage Systems and Optimise their Operation”, by Dr Camila Gehrke; “Photovoltaic Energy for Green Hydrogen Production”, with Dr Domenico Sgró; and “Grounding Systems at PV Plants”, given by João Cunha, director of Mi Omega.
The Second Day
After the success of the first day, the visiting professionals have high expectations for the second day. The Conference will set the tone with a debate on “Hydrogen in the Northeastern Brazil: Technology, Policies and the Value Chain”, featuring Joaquim Rolim, Executive Secretary for Industry at Ceará’s Economic Development Office, and Jurandir Picanço, a consultant to Ceará’s Federation of Industries. Then, Advances in Energy Storage will be discussed by Ricardo Estefano, Head of Battery Energy Storage Systems at WEG; Aldhir Alves, Sales Engineer at Grupo Moura; and Breno Machado, Sales Director at UCB Power.
The last session will be about “Electric Mobility: Market Perspectives and Business Opportunities”, with Rafael Cunha and Cesare Quinteiro, respectively COO and CEO at movE Electromobility; Delfina Pontes, Smart Solutions Superintendent at Neoenergia; and Nivton Rocha, CEO of GPM Soluções e Sistemas.
