image005.png PALFINGER MARINE to deliver 150 wind cranes for largest Dutch offshore project Gemini

PALFINGER MARINE today announced that it will bring its winning combination of proven technology, fast delivery times and low maintenance costs to offshore wind project Gemini, having entered into an agreement with Siemens to supply wind cranes for the project. Gemini is owned by a consortium consisting of Northland Power (60%), Siemens Financial Services (SFS – 20%), Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors BV (Van Oord – 10%) and N.V. HVC (HVC – 10%). The 600 megawatt wind power plant will consist of 150 Siemens wind turbines. The wind farm is to be located in the North Sea, 85 km above the coast of Groningen. With an installed capacity of 600 MW in total Gemini will yield 2.6 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity per year. The wind power plant will supply clean energy for one and a half million people in the Netherlands.

Gemini will be equipped with PALFINGER MARINEs PF6000, the latest generation of its electric fixed boom cranes which have already been delivered very successful to wind farms Anholt and GodeWind I & II. One key success factor of PALFINGER MARINE is the first-class manufacturing in Maribor in a large scale industrial production site with nearly 600 employees. This allows much quicker delivery times than competitors. The robust design of the product with its overload protection system and a corrosion protection system combined of spray-galvanization, C5M-high painting system together with stainless steel components ensure durability and a long-lasting safe performance.

A winning partnership for high-class projects
“With PALFINGER manufacturing knowhow and its reliable, well-proven product, we have now a perfect support for our innovative service concept” said Jens Moeller, Senior Project Manager of the Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Division.

“This important partnership with Siemens confirms our developments of the last years and our leadership position for lifting solutions in the wind industry. Continuous product development, large scale production and reliability of our services connect our two companies”, Martin Zauner, Head of Business Unit Wind Cranes at PALFINGER MARINE, concludes.

The crane will be on display at the EWEA Offshore in Copenhagen, March 10-12. Visit PALFINGER MARINE in hall C1, booth B33, and Siemens Hall E, booth D31.
