ZWIJNDRECHT – UK | GeoSea as DEME’s specialist in complex offshore marine engineering projects, has been awarded a major contract in the UK offshore wind market. The total value of the project boosts GeoSea’s turnover by more than 340 million euros and strengthens the company’s leading position as an EPCI contractor (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation) in the UK offshore wind market.
Today, RWE Innogy UK announced the financial close of the Galloper offshore wind farm project which is located 27 km off the Suffolk coast. GeoSea has been awarded the EPCI foundation contract.
GeoSea has the responsibility for the design, fabrication and installation of 56 steel monopile foundations, which will be driven into the seabed to provide a solid base for each of the wind turbines. The monopiles which will be used for this project are the heaviest that GeoSea ever installed with weights in excess of 1100 tons. The installation of the foundations at the offshore site is scheduled towards the end of 2016.
The construction of the Galloper offshore wind project brings the UK a step closer to achieving significant clean energy and carbon reduction benefits. The estimated annual production is expected to be equivalent to the domestic needs of approximately 336,000 average UK households. To achieve this target, 56 6 MW turbines will be installed.
