Hamburg. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has taken the opportunity to visit Buss Terminal Eemshaven during his tour of the province of Groningen. After talking to representatives of Groningen Seaports, the local port authority, he got an impression of the terminal in personal conversations. Here the individual components for offshore wind farms are stored, pre-assembled and shipped.
Rutte was particularly interested in the terminal’s contribution to the Dutch energy transition. “We have already been active at the site for almost ten years and have accompanied more than ten major offshore projects in the North Sea as a base port during this time. Thanks to our direct access to the open sea, we offer the ideal gateway for offshore logistics,” Terminal Managing Director Martin van den Heuvel explains the advantages of the location. “In order to provide our customers with the best service, we are continuously investing in our infrastructure,” adds van den Heuvel.
Buss Terminal Eemshaven recently won the tendering procedure for Hornsea Two, the world’s largest wind farm. From May, the terminal will be responsible for handling, storage and terminal logistics for the 165 monopiles and transition pieces on its own site. The monopile foundations of the wind turbines each weigh up to 1,230 tonnes. This corresponds to the weight of approx. three fully loaded Boeing 747-400 aircraft. The wind farm in British waters can supply around 1.3 million households with green energy.
