Jan De Nul has awarded the ships agency contract to DHSS with regards to its installation of high voltage cables for the grid connection for the projects Hollandse Kust (Noord) and (West Alpha) of TenneT. Jan De Nul, as part of the consortium “JLC” together with LS-Cable & System, are responsible for the supply and installation of 210km of offshore cable on behalf of TenneT. Jan De Nul Group will take care of the transportation, laying and protection of the cables while LC-Cable & System is responsible for the supply, termination and testing of the cables.
First trials at the beach of Wijk aan Zee for the physical cable pull-in in 2022 have successfully been completed, by using water jetting technology to lower export cables via the customized Sunfish. Another trial will be done, by trenching the cable via another sophisticated tool, called Starfish.
The Hollandse Kust (Noord) and Hollandse Kust (West Alpha) export cable systems will consist of two 220kV AC cable systems each. These four cable systems will cover a total length of 210 km, connecting the wind farms to the onshore Dutch power grid near Beverwijk, just north of the port of IJmuiden. When operational, these wind farms will generate up to 1,400 MW, enough green electricity to meet the annual needs 1,4 million households.

DHSS will assist Jan de Nul for this project from its support base in Port of Ijmuiden and will be responsible for ships agency services, quayside logistics, local procurement and husbandry services.
