On 5th February, John Knowles, Chairman of leading print process provider DEK, attended the All Party Parliamentary China Group’s (APPCG) annual Chinese New Year Reception to welcome the Year of the Snake. Business leaders, dignitaries, diplomats, members of Parliament and members of the press attended the reception, during which honored guest H.E. Ambassador Liu Xiaoming spoke about the importance of strong UK-China relations.
Founded in 1997, the APPCG exists as a platform for discussion on all issues of importance to the UK and China, and aims to expand the parliamentary contribution to the bilateral relationship between the two nations. Events such as the Chinese New Year Reception enable business, community and political leaders to progress discussions and help expand cooperation to further economic growth for both countries.
Commenting on the APPCG and the recent reception, DEK Chairman John Knowles says: “The APPCG, through its numerous meetings and events, is an excellent forum for meeting other companies with interests in China, as well as officials from both the China and UK governments. It was an honour to attend this event, re-connect with acquaintances and establish new connections with other like-minded business leaders.”
DEK, a Weymouth-based global developer of printing technologies for the semiconductor, electronics assembly, solar cell and fuel cell markets, has successfully conducted business in China for many years. In fact, the company was one of the first in its industry to recognise the important role China would play in electronics manufacturing and began doing business there in the early 1980s. DEK’s presence in China has continued to grow and, just over ten years ago, the company established its first equipment manufacturing operation in Shenzhen. Involvement in organisations such as the APPCG has been extremely beneficial to DEK’s endeavours in China.
“Leaders of any UK company interested in understanding more about our country’s political and commercial relationship with China should consider becoming involved in the APPCG,” concludes Knowles. “The information shared and connections made through this group are invaluable.”
