CWind wins 2 year contract

CWind, a leading provider of services to the offshore wind industry, has announced that it has won a renewal of its contact to provide turbine technician services to Siemens. Over the next two years CWind will be providing turbine technicians for the offshore installation of Siemens turbines during the construction of a number of UK offshore wind farms.

CWind has worked with Siemens UK for over a year now, providing technicians for onshore pre- assembly, offshore construction and installation services. CWind’s technicians, who on average have 8-15 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering, were supplied to match specific project needs at London Array, Teesside, Gwynt y Môr, Lincs and West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farms. This ranged from one or two technicians reinforcing existing Siemens teams to independent project teams that included supervisors, mechanical and electrical technicians and stores staff.

Under the new contract CWind’s technicians will work on lifting and installing components, the cabling, mechanical and electrical completion of turbines as well as handover inspections.

Lars Hansen, who has been heading the department for turbine technician services since its inception commented on the win: “I think we have a good team of people that are competent, pro- active and with good initiative. They are able to see opportunities for improvement from a range of angles and propose solutions to site management. For our clients this has meant a more engaged manpower force that is interested in optimising working areas in a safe and efficient manner. Working with Siemens has been straightforward throughout, because they have procedures and systems in place that make it clear to suppliers like us, what is expected, enabling and facilitating our teams.”

Lee Andrews, Head Of Site Installation Technicians, Siemens UK said: “CWind have become an integral part of the Siemens offshore site execution business along with other sub-contractors, it is the dedication and investment into the offshore industry that has brought both Siemens and CWind’s working relationship together.

With this agreement it will allow technicians of the right skill set to be deployed to our offshore sites with the confidence of knowing they have the right experience and knowledge to perform the tasks they are engaged to do.”
