Ilumina, the biggest PV plant in operation in Puerto Rico, has been officially inaugurated by the governor, Luis Guillermo Fortuño Burset, yesterday October 5th.The 138-acre solar farm, which uses GPtech PV inverters and a Power Plant Controller (PPC) also from GPtech, will use some 100,000 photovoltaic panels to produce enough electricity to power 6.000 homes.
The Ilumina facility, developed by AES Solar and built by GES, is located in Guayama and it has 20 MW of installed capacity. For the execution of this plant, GPtech supplied 40 PV Inverters integrated in 20 GPtech’s integrated solutions of 1 MW. GPtech also provided the Power Plant Controller (PPC), which acts as a master controller and, working with GPtech’s inverters, allows to meet the technical requirements requested by the utility. PREPA has today the most demanding requirements in the world for renewable energy projects and GPtech has succesfully installed a complete solution to meet them in the first utility scale plant built in Puerto Rico.
GPtech is pioneer in the development of industrial applications based on next generation power electronics. It provides integral solutions principally focused on PV Grid Integration Market, but also in Wind Energy, Transport and Energy. With more than 1,5GW installed capacity in Power Conversion Technologies and 500 MW of PV plants equipped with GPtech Inverters Solutions, it has become one of the most important suppliers of power electronic equipments.
