Schiedam, Netherlands – February 8th, 2019 – Last week Penta-Ocean Construction Co., Ltd held the completion ceremony of its “CP-8001”, a GJ-3750C GustoMSC construction jack-up design. The delivery of “CP-8001” is an important milestone for the Japanese offshore wind development as this is the first and largest DP2 jack-up built in Japan for offshore wind and civil construction projects off the coast of Japan.
Penta-Ocean, one of the largest civil construction companies in Japan, ordered the GJ-3750C GustoMSC design at the Japan Marine United (JMU) shipyard in the fall of 2016. Earlier this year the company announced the completion of “CP-8001” followed by various sea- and jacking-trials in Japanese coastal waters. After its completion ceremony last week, the jack-up is now offcially ready for its first operations.

The GJ-3750C design
The GustoMSC GJ-3750C jack-up design is specifically tailored to Penta-Ocean’s requirements. It is able to instal large-scale marine structures such as 10 MW class wind turbines in water depths up to 30m with leg lengths of 66.7m, while the unit is designed for 86 m legs for 50m water depth. The accommodation offers living quarters for a maximum of 120 people as well as office rooms and recreational rooms. In addition, and not often seen in Japan, the GJ-3750C is equipped with a heli-deck for crew changes and emergency response. The “CP-8001” certifies Class NK DPS-B, a high precision automatic position system (DP2). With four thrusters the jack-up remains in a precise position even in severe conditions.
The GJ-3750C has been executed with the GustoMSC 3750C continuous jacking system, a derivative from the larger and proven systems used in jack-ups built to NG-9000C and NG-5500C GustoMSC design. This jacking system is capable to lift the platform in a continuous motion with 40 cm per minute and has a pre-load capacity of 3,750 tons per leg. The entire project was built under Class NK and the unit is the largest DP jack-up registered by this class.
