Collett expands its operations into Scotland to serve the wind energy industry

Collett & Sons Ltd, one of the UK’s top provider of heavy transport, shipping and project management for delivery of wind turbines, has recently announced the launch of its new Heavy Lift and Port facility in Grangemouth, Scotland. The new depot will complement Collett’s headquarters in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and its Heavy Lift and Port facility in Goole, which has handled over 300 wind turbines since it opened in 2008, and will act as a central hub for Scotland for importing wind turbine components.

The new Grangemouth depot will feature a 110 tonne gantry crane along with other heavy duty handling equipment, which will all be fully operational by January 2014. The depot will have its own quayside facility as well as the full use of Grangemouth Port, and will provide a range of services including discharging vessels, stevedoring, cranes, lifting, handling, storage, maintenance and transport of the Turbines. Grangemouth Port has easy access to all Scottish regions from the dock and its east coast, so Collett’s new depot will be well positioned for shipping cargo and components from Europe and worldwide.

Collett plans to increase its fleet size and transport operations over the next year, and will expand its current Halifax and Goole facilities to help the co-ordination between its ship, port, crane and transport operations in England and Scotland.

David Collett, Managing Director for Collett, comments: “For our operational capabilities, there’s nowhere better than Grangemouth. Its strategic location allows us to serve all of our customers who need specialist lifting, handling and transport services right across Scotland from quay to site.”

Collett’s Regional manager, Gerry Carroll, comments: “Collett’s new depot in Scotland shows the company’s commitment to the area, and shows its healthy economic prospects. We’ll be able to offer a superb service not only in Scotland but also the borders and the north of England from this central location.”

Collett & Sons Ltd is headquartered in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and specialises in heavy transport, logistics and marine shipping. The company formed in 1928 and has been successfully transporting wind turbine components for over 15 years. The Collett group includes Transports & Projects, Marine and Consulting activities. It runs a fleet of over 100 diverse vehicles and trailers that transport standard and out-of-gauge freight worldwide, and currently employs over 100 staff.
