68 cranes from the West Coast for the German Nordlicht 1 wind farm
Published in: Wind, Press Releases

This large, million-pound order will boost both local employment and the Danish wind industry.
Seasight Davits, based in West Jutland, has been tasked with delivering 68 specially designed cranes for the German Nordlicht 1 project. This order is worth tens of millions and represents both an economic gain for the company and a clear example of how large green energy projects create jobs and strengthen the Danish wind industry.
Nordlicht 1
Expected to be operational in 2028, Nordlicht 1 will be one of Germany's largest offshore wind farms. It is located approximately 85 kilometres north of the island of Borchum in the German part of the North Sea. Nordlicht 1 has a capacity of 980 MW. Vattenfall is responsible for ownership and construction, while CS Wind Offshore from Aalborg is supplying the foundations (transition pieces), including the delivery and installation of Seasight Davits cranes.
Davit cranes for challenging sea conditions
The 68 advanced Davit cranes to be delivered have been developed to withstand rough sea conditions. They are used to lift equipment and spare parts onto the turbines and, in an emergency, can safely lower up to four people from the towers. This places high demands on both design and quality. CEO Thomas Halkjær Kristensen points out that this order builds on experience from several previous projects with Vattenfall. This means that Seasight Davits can secure and maintain many local jobs in the area.
The order was won in close competition with Asian suppliers, among others.
Cooperation and quality requirements
“Our cooperation with Seasight Davits is based on our previous positive experiences with them delivering high-quality cranes. The equipment must be able to withstand extreme conditions and function smoothly for many years. Reliability is crucial for the safety of both the crew and the equipment" says Søren Hermansen, VP of Projects at Transition Pieces, CS WIND Offshore.
Impact on employment and local development
The large order benefits not only Seasight Davits but also generates activity among local subcontractors in the areas of components, transport and services. New facilities and investments in production technology will make the company better equipped to compete internationally and strengthen West Jutland's position as a centre for offshore expertise. Lisbeth Bæk from Vattenfall points out that investments in offshore wind create long-lasting jobs. This serves as proof that the green transition benefits not only the climate, but also local communities.
Offshore wind and the future of local businesses
When Nordlicht 1 is completed, it will not only be the 68 cranes in West Jutland that showcase the region's expertise. The entire value chain, from the first weld to installation at sea, will contribute, and new projects on the horizon may create more jobs and export opportunities. The company's investments in technology and facilities demonstrate its continued strength in a global market where experience and innovation go hand in hand.
The order for the 68 cranes is clear evidence that the green transition and industrial growth can go hand in hand. For Seasight Davits and the entire municipality of Ringkøbing-Skjern, this means growth and employment, as well as securing an important role in exporting the energy solutions of the future to the rest of the world. Thus, the West Jutland cranes will become a central element in sustainable development, both locally and internationally.
